  • You are being treated at the rheumatology clinic at Taaone Hospital Centre in Papeete by Dr Baptiste Gérard

If joining the tophaceous gout sub-group:

  • You have a form of gout where hard lumps (called tophi) have formed under your skin (confirm with trial site)

If joining the gout crisis sub-group:

  • You are within 48 hours of the start of a gout attack
  • You agree to come back one week after joining the study for a second blood and urine sample

If joining the 2021 follow-up group:

  • You took part in the TOPATA study in 2021
  • You provided genetic and blood samples during that 2021 study
  • At the time you joined the 2021 study, you either had high uric acid levels in your blood without gout symptoms, or you had neither high uric acid levels nor gout

Who may not be able to join:

  • You are unwilling or unable to understand and give your consent to take part
  • You have a physical condition that would prevent you from following the study procedures
  • A close family member (parent, child, or sibling) is already taking part in the study — though both members of a couple (e.g. husband and wife) may be allowed to participate
  • You are under legal guardianship or supervision
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding

If applying for the general population group:

  • You are unable to return for follow-up sample collection if needed

If applying for the gout group:

  • You have a knee replacement (prosthesis)
  • You have another inflammatory joint or rheumatic disease (confirm with trial site)
