Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have persistent atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm that does not stop on its own) and have not previously had a catheter ablation procedure for it, and are now planned to have one
- People whose left atrium (one of the heart's upper chambers) is enlarged, based on measurements taken during heart imaging
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had a previous heart ablation procedure of any kind
- People under 18 years of age
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have previously had a stroke or a transient ischaemic attack (sometimes called a "mini-stroke")
- People with severely reduced heart pumping function, where the heart is pumping less than 35% of its normal capacity
- People with significantly reduced kidney function
- People with a skin condition or known skin sensitivity that could cause irritation or a rash
