Who might be able to join this trial:

- People who are pregnant, or who have inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis)
- People whose bowel was completely blocked before surgery, or who needed emergency surgery
- People who were expected to need removal of multiple organs as part of their surgery
- People who were recently treated for a different cancer
- People whose cancer falls into a specific category called "Type IV" in a classification system used to describe certain low rectal cancers (confirm with trial site for details)
- People where cancer that had spread to other organs was discovered during surgery
- People whose cancer biopsy showed certain less common types, such as signet ring cell carcinoma, mucinous adenocarcinoma, anaplastic carcinoma, or poorly differentiated carcinoma
