Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with rectal cancer very close to the anal sphincter muscles, where a type of surgery called Intersphincteric Resection (ISR) is the recommended surgical approach

Who may not be able to join:

  • People whose cancer does not meet the medical criteria for ISR surgery
  • People who have more than one primary colorectal cancer at the same time
  • People who received radiation therapy before their main surgery (neoadjuvant radiotherapy)
  • People whose cancer progresses or who pass away during the period after surgery
  • People who develop serious complications at the surgical join site after the operation, such as leakage or narrowing
  • People whose stoma reversal surgery ends up taking place more than 6 months after the ISR procedure
  • People who need to take antibiotics for a long period — more than 3 months
  • People with a known allergy to the probiotic product Clostridium butyricum (MIYA) Tablets or any of its ingredients
  • People who are using other probiotic products at any point during the study period
  • People who also have inflammatory bowel disease (such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis)
  • People with a history of neurological or psychiatric conditions, including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, stroke, epilepsy, major depression, or other brain or psychiatric disorders
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
