Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have low back pain that spreads down the leg (like sciatica) with a nerve-pain quality, confirmed by a score of 12 or more on a specific nerve pain screening tool called the S-LANSS
- People whose low back and leg pain has been ongoing for more than 6 months
- People aged between 18 and 70 years
- People whose pain in the past 4 weeks has been bad enough to limit their usual activities or change their daily routine for more than one day
- People who have had at least one period of 6 months to a year during which their pain never fully went away for a whole month
- People whose pain rates at least 3 out of 10 on a standard pain scale
- People who are able to give their informed agreement to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a recent sudden injury or major physical trauma
- People who have significant pain coming from the hip joint or the pelvic/sacroiliac area (the joints at the base of the spine)
- People with symptoms that may suggest a serious spinal condition affecting bladder or bowel control, sexual function, or causing leg weakness or paralysis (confirm with trial site)
- People who have had surgery on the spine, pelvis, or hip at any point
- People who have received injections with anaesthetic or anti-inflammatory medications, or a procedure called radiofrequency treatment, in the spine or surrounding areas within the past two years
- People with a neurological or whole-body (systemic) illness that could affect their ability to participate
- People who are not able to communicate in Spanish or understand the study instructions and materials
- People for whom certain hands-on or electrical physical therapy techniques would not be medically appropriate (confirm with trial site)
