Who might be able to join this trial:

• You are between 50 and 80 years old
• You have been diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes (there are additional requirements depending on which type — see below)
• If you have type 1 diabetes, you have had it for 10 years or more

Who may not be able to join:

• You weigh more than 140 kg (about 309 lbs)
• You take medications that cannot be safely paused for 12 hours
• You have been diagnosed with dementia
• You have had an active cancer diagnosis within the past year
• You have had a major stroke in the past
• You have been diagnosed with major depression or are currently taking antipsychotic medication
• You have a history of traumatic brain injury
• You have another medical condition (such as epilepsy or a recent concussion) that the study doctor believes makes participation unsafe or unsuitable (confirm with trial site)
• You are unable to complete memory and thinking tests, for example due to severe vision or hearing problems that cannot be helped with glasses or hearing aids, or because of a language barrier
• You experience severe claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces)
• You have metal objects in your body — such as a pacemaker or surgical plates or screws in your head or neck — that would make a brain MRI scan unsafe
• You do not wish to be told if the MRI scan unexpectedly finds something of concern
• Your kidney function test result (eGFR) was below 45 within the last 3 months
