- People whose Parkinson's-like symptoms appear to be caused by heavy metal exposure
- People with a history of certain other neurological or serious health conditions, including other brain or nervous system diseases, brain infections, conditions such as multiple sclerosis, a cancer diagnosis within the last 10 years, stroke, HIV infection, a systemic autoimmune disease, or alcohol or other substance dependence
- People who do not pass the pre-surgery assessment required before DBS, or who are unwilling to undergo DBS surgery
