Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 80 years
- People who have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder (a form of clinical depression) according to standard diagnostic guidelines, confirmed through a structured clinical interview
- People whose depression symptoms score at or above a certain level on a standard rating scale called the HAMD-21 (confirm with trial site)
- People who are able to attend group therapy sessions twice a week for five weeks

Who may not be able to join:
- People who have ever been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, a psychotic disorder, or a primary substance use disorder
- People who are currently considered to be at high acute risk of suicide requiring immediate intervention
- People who have a serious neurological condition, a brain injury, or any reason they cannot safely have an MRI scan (such as metal implants in the body or severe claustrophobia)
- People who are currently receiving psychotherapy, or who have started a new antidepressant medication within the past four weeks
- People who do not have sufficient proficiency in the German language to take part in therapy sessions and complete the study assessments
- People who have cognitive impairment or other conditions that would affect their ability to give informed consent or participate fully in the study
