Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older who have had persistent atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm that has continued without stopping) for more than 6 months, and whose doctor has recommended a procedure to treat it using ablation (a technique that targets abnormal heart tissue).
- Adults aged 18 or older who experience repeated episodes of dangerous irregular heart rhythms (ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia) that have not been adequately controlled with medication.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have not given their consent to take part in the study.
- People with persistent atrial fibrillation who have a medical reason why they cannot receive a drug called adenosine.
- People whose heart rhythm condition is caused by a hormonal or metabolic disorder, or a serious illness such as an overactive thyroid, severe infection, or blood clots in the lungs.
- People who have a medical reason why a heart catheter procedure (a procedure involving a thin tube guided into the heart) cannot be safely performed — for example, the presence of a blood clot inside the heart.
- People for whom remote heart monitoring using an implanted device (such as an implantable heart monitor or defibrillator) is not possible.
