Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who have been diagnosed with postherpetic neuralgia (a type of nerve pain that can last after a shingles infection)
- People who have not had any treatments for their postherpetic neuralgia — such as capsaicin or lidocaine patches — in the past 3 months
- People who are willing and able to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a cardiac pacemaker (a device implanted to help control the heartbeat)
- People with a known allergy to the adhesive electrode pads used on the skin
- People who have an active skin infection at the area where the electrode pads would be placed
- People who have a metal implant in or near the area of the body being treated
- People who have circulation problems or skin sores/wounds at the treatment site
- People who are unable to stay in the required body position during treatment
- People who have difficulty communicating effectively
- People who have a diagnosis of psychosis or a progressive neurological condition (a worsening condition affecting the nervous system)
- People who are pregnant
