Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 years or older
- People who have come to the emergency department with sudden or worsening pain that matches sciatica — meaning one-sided pain starting in the lower back or buttock area and travelling down the back of the leg, sometimes reaching below the knee
- People whose pain rates at 5 out of 10 or higher on a pain scale
Who may not be able to join:
- People with a known allergy to the study medications, such as local anaesthetics
- People who have a blood clotting disorder or who are currently taking blood-thinning medications
- People where a spinal infection or spinal tumour is suspected or confirmed
- People with certain nerve-related symptoms such as loss of bladder or bowel control, or weakness in the legs
- People who are not able to give their own informed consent to take part in the trial
