Who may be able to join

  • People who need a diagnostic bronchoscopy (a camera procedure to look inside the airways) for a suspicious lung lesion, where lymph nodes in the chest have been confirmed as unaffected — either through a prior PET-CT scan showing no active lymph nodes, or through a sampling procedure done during the bronchoscopy when clinically needed.
  • People with a single lung lesion measuring 2.5 cm or smaller that has been confirmed as primary lung cancer through a tissue or cell sample.
  • People whose medical team has determined that surgical removal of the lung tumor being treated is a suitable option.
  • People whose case has been reviewed and approved by an interdisciplinary tumor board (a group of specialists from different medical fields).
  • People who are able to read, understand, and sign the trial's informed consent form.
  • People aged 18 years or older.
  • People whose lung anatomy allows for at least 20 mm of clear space between the planned treatment zone and nearby sensitive structures such as the lung tissue lining, blood vessels, and major airways (confirm with trial site).

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding.
  • People whose tumor is located near or touching vital structures such as the main airway, the main lung artery, the esophagus, or the trachea.
  • People who have an electronic implant in the chest area, such as a pacemaker or implantable defibrillator.
  • People with a blood clotting problem that cannot be corrected, or a platelet count at or below 50,000/mm³ (very low levels of clotting cells in the blood).
  • People who are on blood-thinning medication, or who have high blood pressure in the lungs, where the treating doctor considers this to create an unacceptable safety risk for the bronchoscopy and treatment procedure.
  • People with severe health conditions that are not well controlled.
  • People with an active infection affecting the whole body.
  • People who have previously had targeted radiation treatment (a type called SBRT) in the area planned for treatment.
  • People who have participated in another clinical trial and received an experimental treatment within the last 30 days, where the trial doctor believes this could interfere with the current study.
  • People whose tumor is associated with a collapsed area of lung, blocked-related lung inflammation, fluid around the lung, or scarring of the lung tissue.
  • People whose participation the trial investigators have determined would create a safety risk.
  • People with any other health condition that the principal investigator considers a reason not to undergo the bronchoscopy procedure.
  • People considered unsuitable for any other reason, as determined by the trial investigator.
