Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have been admitted to hospital with a stroke or a mini-stroke (sometimes called a TIA), which happened within the last 2 weeks.
  • Brain scans (such as a CT scan or MRI) support the diagnosis of a stroke or mini-stroke.
  • You have a smartphone and are able to use an app called "ECG247" for the study.
  • You are expected to live for more than 6 months.
  • You have a permanent address in Norway.
  • You are able to give your own consent to take part, or someone is able to give consent on your behalf, and you are willing to follow the study requirements.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have already been diagnosed with an irregular heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation (AF) or atrial flutter before joining the trial.
  • You are currently taking blood-thinning medications (such as apixaban, rivaroxaban, edoxaban, dabigatran, or warfarin), or there is a medical reason you cannot take them — except for short-term use to prevent blood clots.
  • You have an implanted heart device, such as a pacemaker, a defibrillator (ICD), or a small heart monitor (loop recorder).
  • Scans have shown a significant narrowing (more than 70%) in the main neck artery on the same side as your stroke.
  • You are pregnant.
