Who may and may not be able to join

Who may be able to join

  • People who are between 18 and 70 years old
  • People who have already been diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (a form of MS where symptoms come and go) before the trial starts
  • People whose MS-related physical disability is at or below a certain level, measured by a standard MS scale called the EDSS — the maximum score allowed is 4, which generally means the person can walk without aid (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have had their MS diagnosis for no more than 10 years
  • People who have health insurance
  • People whose MS treatment has either stayed the same or has not changed in the six months before the trial starts — or people who are not on any MS treatment
  • People who score 22 or above on a fatigue questionnaire called the FSMC will be placed in the "MS with fatigue" group
  • People who score below 22 on the FSMC fatigue questionnaire will be placed in the "MS without fatigue" group

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People for whom an MRI scan is not safe or suitable (for example, those with certain metal implants)
  • People who have a known hormonal, immune system, psychiatric, or neurological condition other than relapsing-remitting MS or Major Depressive Disorder
  • People who are currently taking certain medications that affect brain chemical systems, such as Levodopa, Amantadine, Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, or antipsychotic medications
  • People who have had an MS relapse (a flare-up of symptoms) or have been treated with steroids within the four weeks before the trial starts
  • People whose current MS treatment is something other than a B-cell depleting monoclonal antibody or a fumarate medication (confirm with trial site for specific medication names)
  • People who have a sleep disorder, as identified by a standard sleep quality questionnaire called the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index
