Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older
- People of any sex or gender
- People who are able to give informed consent to participate
- People who can speak, read, and understand English or Spanish
- People who have a confirmed diagnosis of Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance (MGUS) or Smoldering Multiple Myeloma (SMM) (Group 1), or people who have a newly confirmed diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma (MM) and are about to start treatment for it (Group 2)
- People whose myeloma treatment is being delivered at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center or the University of Miami Health System (including connected sites)
- People whose treating cancer doctor has given written approval for them to participate
- People with a general health and activity level that meets a certain threshold, as assessed by their doctor using a standard scale (confirm with trial site if uncertain)
- People who have not been regularly fasting for 12 hours or more overnight for at least half of the past 3 months
- People whose current diet does not consistently follow a Mediterranean-style eating pattern — specifically, people not already meeting at least two of these three habits most of the time: eating 3 or more servings of vegetables per day, eating 3 or more servings of beans or legumes per week, or eating 1 or more servings of nuts per day
- People who have access to the internet via a smartphone, tablet, or computer
- People who are willing to be randomly assigned to either a dietary and fasting programme or a waitlist group
Who may not be able to join:
- People under 18 years of age
- People who are unable to give informed consent
- People who cannot read or understand English or Spanish
- People for whom a doctor has determined that changes to their diet would not be safe
- People with a history of a clinical eating disorder
- People with a history of dementia or a major psychiatric condition
- People who have had a stroke, heart attack, or heart failure within the past year
- People who have an autoimmune disease and are currently receiving treatment for it at the time of screening
