Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are older than 18 years of age
- People who have varicose veins that have been classified by doctors as falling within a specific range of severity (known as CEAP clinical class C2 to C6, which covers visible varicose veins through to active leg ulcers — confirm with trial site for your specific classification)
- People whose main leg vein (called the great saphenous vein, or GSV) has been shown to have abnormal backward blood flow lasting more than half a second
- People whose main leg vein (GSV) measures 12 millimetres or less in diameter
- People who have given their informed consent to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose abnormal backward blood flow occurs outside the main leg vein (GSV), including those with a combination of affected veins
- People with a history of blood clots in either deep or surface veins of the legs
- People who have abnormal backward blood flow in the deeper veins of the legs
- People who have a blockage in their veins that is either unrelated to blood clots or is caused by previous blood clots
- People who have problems with blood flow in the veins of the pelvis
- People who are currently taking blood-thinning tablets (oral anticoagulants)
- People for whom doctors have determined that blood-thinning medication would be needed after the procedure used in this trial
- People for whom the surgeon determines that a specific type of laser fibre (a radial fibre of 1.4–1.57 mm) cannot be used
- People who decline to participate in the study
