Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People with a body mass index (BMI) between 18.5 and 30.0 kg/m²
  • People between 18 and 40 years of age
  • People who are able and willing to give their formal agreement to take part in the study

Who may not be able to join:

  • People assessed as being at high risk of suicide
  • People who have ever been diagnosed with a severe neurological condition (including ADHD), schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, severe substance abuse problems, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), diabetes, epilepsy, or coronary heart disease
  • People who have met the criteria for an eating disorder or a condition involving persistent physical symptoms (somatic symptom disorder) within the past 12 months
  • People who are currently taking medication, with the exception of psychiatric medications for depression or anxiety — those taking such psychiatric medications must have been on a stable dose for at least two months before the study begins
  • People for whom MRI scanning is not safe, such as those with metal implants in their body or who experience severe discomfort in enclosed spaces (claustrophobia)
  • People who are pregnant or breastfeeding at the time of the study (applies to female participants)
  • People with limited ability to move or who have a hearing impairment
  • People with uncorrected vision problems who cannot wear contact lenses (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have a medical reason they cannot use a specific ear stimulation device (tVNS), or who have a skin condition affecting the right ear
