Who might be able to join this trial:
- People between 18 and 80 years old who are receiving care (either as outpatients or inpatients) at one of the research centres and are included in the centre's atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat) database.
- People who have been confirmed to have a type of irregular heartbeat called paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, diagnosed through a standard heart tracing test (ECG), a 24-hour heart monitor, or a handheld heart monitor device.
- People who have high blood pressure and have already started taking medication to treat it.
- People who have diabetes and have already started taking medication to treat it, or people with slightly raised blood sugar levels (prediabetes) who are not yet on medication but have had a specific blood sugar result (HbA1c between 6.1% and 6.4%) recorded in the past three months.
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose irregular heartbeat is caused by a serious narrowing of a heart valve called the mitral valve.
- People who have serious leaking of both the mitral valve and the tricuspid valve in the heart.
- People who have been diagnosed with heart failure, regardless of the type.
- People with certain specific heart muscle conditions, such as amyloid cardiomyopathy, Fabry disease, muscular dystrophy, or hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (confirm with trial site for full list).
- People who have had a heart attack within the past three months.
- People who are pregnant.
