Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have liver disease caused by a long-term hepatitis C virus infection
  • People who attend the outpatient Hepatitis Clinic in the Gastroenterology Department at Hospital Civil Fray Antonio Alcalde
  • People whose liver disease is rated as relatively stable, based on a scoring system called the Child-Pugh score being less than 8 points (confirm with trial site)

  • People who are unable to complete certain physical fitness or frailty assessment tests
  • People who have a build-up of fluid in the abdomen that has not responded to treatment (refractory ascites)
  • People who have previously had kidney failure related to liver disease (hepatorenal syndrome)
  • People who have previously had a lung condition related to liver disease (hepatopulmonary syndrome)
  • People who have long-term kidney disease
  • People who have an autoimmune disease (where the immune system attacks the body)
  • People who have any type of cancer
  • People who have dementia or another significant mental illness
  • People who are currently using protein supplements or probiotics
