Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have had pain or problems with one shoulder (specifically subacromial impingement syndrome) lasting at least 3 months
- People who are about to begin a 10-session physiotherapy program for their shoulder
- People who are willing and able to give their formal agreement to take part in the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a nerve compression or nerve disorder affecting their arm or hand
- People who have a history of diabetes
- People who have an inflammatory joint disease (such as rheumatoid arthritis), an active infection, or any cancer
- People who have a frozen shoulder condition
- People who have previously broken, dislocated, or had surgery on the affected shoulder
- People whose MRI scan shows a complete tear of the rotator cuff tendons in the shoulder
- People who have calcium deposits in their shoulder tendons (calcific tendinitis)
- People who have received a cortisone injection into the shoulder or had physiotherapy for it within the past 3 months
- People who are currently taking medication for nerve-related pain
- People who are pregnant
- People who have a cognitive impairment that would prevent them from completing study questionnaires
