Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 75 years old
- People who have been diagnosed with a specific type of rectal cancer (rectal adenocarcinoma) confirmed by laboratory testing
- People whose rectal tumor is located in the middle to lower part of the rectum, within 10 cm of the anal opening
- People who have had keyhole (laparoscopic) surgery to remove their rectal cancer while preserving the sphincter muscle

- People, or their family members, who are able to understand the study information and are willing to provide written consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People who currently have, or have previously had, another type of cancer
- People who had a type of surgery that removed the rectum and anus entirely (called abdominoperineal resection), or a surgery where the bowel was diverted without reconnection (Hartmann's procedure)
- People where a specific part of the abdominal lining was not opened during their surgery (confirm with trial site)
- People who have previously had surgery on the pelvic floor
- People who required emergency surgery because of a bowel blockage
- People with serious liver, kidney, heart, lung, or blood-clotting problems, or other serious health conditions that the treating doctor determines would make the procedure unsafe
- People with a history of severe mental health disorders
- Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People considered unsuitable for any other clinical or medical reason, as determined by the trial investigators
