Who may be able to join
- People who are able and willing to give informed consent to participate.
- People who are at least 18 years old.
- People who have been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC), confirmed through clinical assessment and a camera examination of the bowel (endoscopy).
- People who have had ulcerative colitis for at least 3 months.
- People whose ulcerative colitis was assessed as mild or in remission (a score of 4 or below on a standard bowel inflammation scale) within the 90 days before joining the trial.
- People who have been on a stable dose of their current UC medications — or no medications — for a set period before joining, depending on the type of treatment: at least 4 weeks for no medication or 5-ASA (a common UC anti-inflammatory medicine); at least 8 weeks for immunosuppressant medicines; or at least 12 weeks for biologic medicines. Note: this does not apply to steroids.

Who may not be able to join

- People whose ulcerative colitis is rated as moderate or severe (a score of 5 or above on the standard bowel inflammation scale used in this trial).
- People who have previously had stomach surgery or had part of their bowel surgically removed.
- People who have used antibiotics within the past 3 months.
- People who are expected to need antibiotics at any point during the study (for example, around a surgical procedure).
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- People who have a history of severe, life-threatening allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) to any foods.
- People who cannot tolerate eating foods that are high in dietary fibre.
- People who are currently misusing alcohol or drugs.
- People who follow a vegan diet as their regular way of eating.
- People who do not have enough freezer space at home to store the meals that would be delivered as part of the trial.
