Who may be able to join

  • People who have been clinically diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (a form of MS with periods of symptoms followed by recovery) using a standard set of diagnostic guidelines known as the 2017 revised McDonald criteria.
  • People with mild to moderate levels of disability, as measured by a standard MS disability scale (EDSS score between 1.0 and 5.5).
  • People who have not received corticosteroid (steroid) treatment in the three months before joining the trial.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who have had an MS relapse (a flare-up of symptoms) within the 90 days before enrolling.
  • People who already regularly take part in structured exercise programs for more than 3 hours per week.
  • People who have other health conditions that may make it difficult to exercise safely, such as significant joint or bone problems, unstable heart or lung conditions, or other whole-body conditions that affect physical activity.
  • People who are unable to have a standard MRI scan, for example due to certain metal implants in the body or severe claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces).
  • People who have another neurological condition (a condition affecting the brain or nervous system) in addition to MS.
  • People who have started or changed their MS disease-modifying medication within the past 6 months.
  • People who have severe muscle stiffness or spasms, as measured by a standard clinical scale (a score of 3 or higher on the Modified Ashworth Scale in any major muscle group).
