Who may be able to join
- Adults aged 18 years or older

- People who have a confirmed diagnosis of ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease affecting the colon, or people without inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) who are having a routine check colonoscopy

- People who have colorectal cancer

- People with serious heart or lung disease
- People with kidney failure
- People who have an active infection or sepsis (a serious body-wide response to infection)
- People currently experiencing a severe flare-up of their IBD
- People taking certain medicines that may affect how the gut lining works, including anti-inflammatory painkillers (NSAIDs) or antibiotics
- People who are unable to tolerate the bowel-cleansing preparation required before a colonoscopy, or who cannot safely complete the study procedures
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who are unable or unwilling to give informed consent or follow the study procedures
