Who might be able to join this trial:
- Children between 6 and 12 years old
- Children who need to have a lower baby molar tooth removed, where the reason for removal is not due to an active infection or abscess
- Children who have not taken any pain-relieving or sedating medications in the 24 hours before the study
- Children who do not have any ongoing health conditions
- Children whose dental behaviour falls within a cooperative or manageable range, as assessed using a standard behaviour rating scale used by dentists (the Frankl Behaviour Rating Scale, categories 2, 3, or 4)
- Children (and their guardians) who agree to take part in the study voluntarily
Who may not be able to join:
- Children who have a known health condition or who regularly take any medications
- Children who have a known allergy to local anaesthetic (numbing) agents or essential oils
- Children who have taken pain-relieving or sedating medications within the 24 hours before the study
- Children who have asthma, a chronic lung condition, a current respiratory (breathing) infection, or any other breathing-related condition that could make inhaled treatments risky
- Children whose dental behaviour is rated as the least cooperative category on the Frankl Behaviour Rating Scale (Category 1), meaning they are unable to cooperate during treatment
- Children whose tooth needs to be removed because of an active infection or abscess
- Children whose tooth is loose, fused to the bone, or has significant root breakdown (more than one-third of the root length affected)
