Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are able to understand the study and are willing to sign a consent form to participate (note: signing this form remotely may be allowed).
- You are willing to follow all study procedures and are available for the full length of the study.
- You are 18 years of age or older.
- You have been diagnosed with one of the following: advanced lung cancer (non-small cell, stage 3B or 4, without certain specific genetic changes); extensive-stage small cell lung cancer that has not yet been treated and will be treated with immunotherapy and chemotherapy; returned or spread head and neck cancer of a specific type (squamous cell), whether or not linked to HPV, that has not yet been treated and will start immunotherapy and chemotherapy; or a cancer of the lining of the lungs (malignant pleural mesothelioma) that will be treated with immunotherapy and chemotherapy.
- You are able to receive a platinum-based chemotherapy treatment combined with one or two immunotherapy drugs.
- You are willing to have a blood sample taken, which may be used for future genetic research.
- You are planning to start cancer treatment within the next 28 days.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have a mental health condition or a life situation that would make it difficult to follow the study requirements.
- You have a physical or psychological condition or finding from a medical exam that would prevent you from safely taking part (confirm with trial site).
- You have advanced non-small cell lung cancer (stage 3B or 4) that has specific targetable genetic changes.
- You have an active hepatitis B or C infection that has required antiviral treatment in the last 28 days (note: people living with HIV who are stable on antiviral therapy and able to receive cancer treatment may still be eligible).
- You are currently taking a steroid medication (such as prednisone) at a dose higher than 10mg per day.
- You have a second cancer that currently requires systemic (whole-body) treatment.
