Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 55 years or older
- People who are able to give written agreement to take part in the study
- Patient group: People who have been diagnosed with fluid swelling in the central part of the eye (macular edema) caused by diabetic eye disease, a blocked retinal vein, or age-related macular degeneration, and who have already received at least 2 injections of a medicine called bevacizumab into the eye
- Healthy volunteer (control) group: People who have no eye conditions other than cataracts, and who have not received any anti-VEGF injections into the eye
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a long-term (chronic) inflammatory disease
- People who have a long-term (chronic) infectious disease
- People with a history of heart-related conditions, such as blocked heart arteries, heart failure, or an irregular heartbeat that requires treatment
- People with a history of brain or blood vessel conditions affecting the brain, such as a stroke or a mini-stroke (transient ischemic attack)
- People who have additional eye conditions beyond those listed above (such as glaucoma, eye inflammation (uveitis), inherited retinal disorders, or clouding inside the eye that prevents proper eye examination) (confirm with trial site)
- People taking certain medications or who have conditions known to significantly affect the activity of an enzyme called cholinesterase in the body (confirm with trial site)
