Who may be able to join

  • People who have been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis based on a specific set of recognised medical guidelines (called the revised McDonald criteria).
  • People who are over 18 years of age.
  • People whose MS-related disability falls within a particular range on a standard disability measuring scale (called the EDSS, scored between 2.0 and 6.0 — confirm with trial site if unsure where a score falls).
  • People whose MS has been stable, with no significant changes, for at least 3 months before joining the trial.
  • People who have been on the same MS treatment medication for at least 3 months without changes.
  • People who are able to understand what the study involves and agree to take part by signing a consent form.
  • People who are able to walk on their own or with the help of a walking aid well enough to complete the movement-related tests in the study.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who have had an MS relapse (a flare-up of symptoms) within the last 3 months.
  • People who have a history of epilepsy or seizures.
  • People who have an implanted electronic device in their body, such as a pacemaker or a nerve stimulator.
  • People who have metal implants in their head or skull that are not compatible with a brain stimulation technique used in this study (called transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TMS).
  • People whose thinking or memory difficulties are severe enough to prevent them from taking part in the study assessments.
  • People who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant during the time the study is running.
  • People who have other neurological or mental health conditions that could affect the study results.
  • People who have serious joint, bone, or muscle conditions that would interfere with the movement and physical tests in the study.
  • People who have any medical reasons that would make it unsafe to receive non-invasive brain stimulation or TMS (confirm specific contraindications with trial site).
