Who might be able to join this trial:

• Adults aged 18 or older at the time they give their consent to participate
• People whose overall health and ability to carry out daily activities falls within an acceptable range, as measured by a standard medical scale (called ECOG performance status 0–2, meaning fully active to capable of limited self-care)
• People who have been confirmed through laboratory testing to have bowel cancer (colon or rectum) that has spread to other parts of the body and cannot be surgically removed
• People who have at least one tumour that can be measured (at least 10mm) on a CT or MRI scan, in an area that has not previously been treated with radiation (unless the cancer has been shown to have grown in that area after radiation treatment)
• People whose blood tests show that their blood, kidneys, liver, and clotting function are at levels considered acceptable by their treating doctor
• People who are about to start their first course of treatment for their cancer (no prior treatment for the metastatic disease)

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have had, or currently have, cancer that has spread to the brain or spinal cord
• People with a history of another type of cancer, with some exceptions: cancers that were fully treated at least 3 years ago with no signs of return and considered low-risk by the treating doctor; certain treated skin cancers with no current evidence of disease; treated early-stage cervical or prostate conditions with no evidence of active cancer
• People who have already received chemotherapy or other cancer drug treatments specifically for their metastatic bowel cancer, including certain targeted therapies such as bevacizumab, cetuximab, or panitumumab
• People who received chemotherapy or other cancer drug treatments after surgery for bowel cancer within the last 6 months, with one exception: prior treatment with a specific type of drug (fluoropyrimidine) used only alongside radiation therapy for rectal cancer may be permitted (confirm with trial site)
• People who have had radiation therapy within the last 14 days before joining, or who have not yet fully recovered from the side effects of radiation treatment
