Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who are scheduled for a surgical procedure such as gallbladder removal, appendix removal, hernia repair, breast surgery, plastic surgery, thyroid or parathyroid surgery, tonsil or adenoid removal, kidney stone treatment, bladder procedures, ovarian cyst removal, hysterectomy, tubal ligation, uterine procedures, IUD insertion, knee or hip replacement, fracture repair, or sports injury surgery (such as knee or shoulder procedures), or people scheduled for a colonoscopy or endoscopy
- People who have never previously undergone anesthesia
- People who report that they are not currently pregnant
Who may not be able to join:
- People under the age of 18
- People who are pregnant
- People scheduled for high-risk surgeries (confirm with trial site for specific details)
- People scheduled for cancer-related procedures
- People whose primary language is not English
- People who experience a change in mental awareness or confusion after their procedure, as determined by their medical care team
- People who have an existing anxiety disorder or any psychiatric diagnosis
- People who currently take benzodiazepines, antidepressants, or long-term opioid medications
