Who may be able to join
- Adults aged 18 or older who have been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (a type of bowel disease affecting the large intestine) or Crohn's disease (another type of bowel disease).
- People who have received at least one injection under the skin of a medicine called infliximab, after first receiving it through a drip into a vein (given at set points early in treatment).
- People for whom infliximab was started because they were experiencing active symptoms — such as abdominal pain, frequent stools (for Crohn's disease), or a score showing active ulcerative colitis symptoms.
- People who have been followed up for at least 3 months after starting infliximab — or, if infliximab did not work or caused problems before 3 months, people who stopped earlier for those reasons.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People whose bowel disease has not been clearly classified as either Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis (sometimes called indeterminate or unclassified colitis).
- People for whom infliximab was started specifically to treat a fistula or abscess near the back passage (isolated perianal Crohn's disease), to prevent Crohn's disease returning after bowel surgery, or to treat a severe sudden flare of colitis requiring hospitalisation.
- People who have a permanent stoma (a surgical opening on the abdomen used to divert waste into a bag).
- People who have had their entire large intestine removed and have had a specific type of internal pouch surgery (called an ileoanal pouch anastomosis, or IPAA).
- People who are currently taking another biological medicine or a certain type of oral medicine (called a small molecule) alongside infliximab.
