Who may be able to join
- People who are willing to follow all study procedures, take part in the VR therapy program, and be available for the full duration of the study.
- People aged 18 years or older.
- People who have a confirmed diagnosis of IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) and also experience anxiety, measured by a specific anxiety questionnaire score of 10 or higher (GAD-7 ≥10).
- People who can read and write in English, as the VR and therapy program is currently only available in English.
- People who have access to an internet-connected device (an Android or Apple smartphone, laptop, or desktop computer), as well as internet access and an email address, to complete study surveys.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People who have a health condition that could make VR headset use unsafe, such as a history of seizures, a facial injury that prevents wearing the headset, or significant vision or hearing difficulties that would affect the ability to see VR images or follow audio instructions.
- People who have a cognitive (thinking or memory) impairment that would affect their ability to take part in the study.
- People who are currently receiving psychotherapy (note: people taking medication for anxiety, or those who have had psychotherapy in the past but are not currently attending, may still be considered eligible by the trial site).
- People who have had IBD-related surgery, including surgery in the perianal area, within the past 6 months, or who are expecting to have such surgery in the next 6 months.
- People whose IBD inflammation treatment is expected to change during the study period.
