Who might be able to join this trial:
- Children who are generally healthy and cooperative, and have recently lost more than one baby molar in the lower jaw, with their lower adult first molars fully grown in on both sides and their lower adult front teeth also grown in
- The adult teeth that are meant to replace the lost baby molars are not expected to come through within the next 6 months
- Children whose teeth are aligned in a way that dental professionals classify as a normal bite (Angle's Class 1 occlusion with normal primary molar relation)
- The teeth next to the gaps (which would support any dental appliance) are free of cavities and have healthy gums
- Children who do not have habits like grinding or clenching teeth, and do not have bite issues such as crossbite, open bite, or deep bite
- Children between the ages of 7 and 9 years old
- X-rays show that the adult replacement teeth are present, have more than one millimeter of bone covering them, and only about one-third of their root has formed so far
- Both the child and their parents have agreed to take part in the new treatment being studied
Who may not be able to join:
- Children who have poor dental hygiene, teeth-grinding or similar habits, severe crowding, loss of space in the jaw, or an abnormal bite
- Children whose baby molars were removed more than three months ago
- Children whose X-rays show no adult replacement tooth present beneath the gum
- Children who are not able to cooperate during dental treatment
