Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have had pain and tingling or numbness on one side of the neck for around 2 months
  • People who have a disc bulge (herniation) pressing toward the side or back at one of the neck levels between the 4th and 7th neck bones
  • People whose neck exam shows a positive Spurling test, which is a specific movement test that a clinician uses to check for nerve compression in the neck
  • People whose arm nerve tension tests (specific physical tests for two arm nerves called the median and ulnar nerves) come back positive
  • People whose ability to turn their head toward the painful side is limited to less than 60 degrees

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have any type of tumour
  • People who have a bone fracture
  • People who have osteoporosis (weak or thinning bones)
  • People who have scoliosis (an abnormal sideways curve of the spine)
  • People who have instability in the neck or shoulder joints
  • People who have nerve damage related to diabetes (diabetic neuropathy)
  • People who have a history of, or currently have, any respiratory (breathing or lung) disease
