Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have elevated depression symptoms, shown by a score of 10 or higher on a standard depression questionnaire called the PHQ-9
- People who are 18 years of age or older
- People who own an iPhone (iOS) or Android smartphone
- People who are willing to use an app called Moodivate
- People who are willing to take part in depression treatment delivered via video or phone (telehealth)
- People who have access to email or text messaging, for completing assessments

- People who are currently receiving psychological or social treatment for depression, such as individual or group therapy
- People who are currently experiencing thoughts of suicide, defined as answering "several days" or more on a specific question about suicidal thoughts in the PHQ-9 questionnaire
- People who do not live in the state of South Carolina
