  • People who have been diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinson's disease (Parkinson's disease with no known external cause)

  • People who are able to understand the study and sign a written consent form

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have medical reasons that make DBS surgery unsafe or unsuitable for them
  • People who score above 25 on a standard depression questionnaire called the Beck Depression Inventory-II, indicating significant depression
  • People who score below 24 on a standard memory and thinking test called the Mini-Mental State Examination (adjusted based on education level)
  • People who have other serious health conditions that the investigator believes could interfere with DBS treatment
  • People who already have another active medical implant in their body (other than DBS) or metal implants in their skull
  • People who need to undergo certain medical treatments during the study period, including diathermy (a heat-based therapy), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), or electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)
  • People who have previously had brain surgery to destroy tissue (ablative neurosurgery) or stem cell therapy for Parkinson's disease
  • People who are unable to complete at least three days in a row of detailed motor and sleep diaries
  • People who are unable to follow their prescribed medication schedule or meet other study requirements
  • People who are currently pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study
  • People who have any other condition that the investigators consider would make participation unsuitable
  • People who have taken part in another interventional clinical trial within the four weeks before signing consent
