Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been confirmed through a biopsy to have a specific type of stomach cancer called gastric adenocarcinoma
- People whose cancer is located in the upper part of the stomach, or at the junction where the food pipe meets the stomach (a specific category called Siewert type II or III), and whose cancer is at an early-to-moderate stage that has not spread to distant parts of the body
- People aged between 18 and 75 years who are generally able to carry out daily activities (with a general health rating of 0–2 on a standard medical scale)
- People who are planned to have surgery and, based on pre-surgery assessment, are considered suitable for one of two specific surgical reconstruction methods
- People whose liver, kidneys, heart, lungs, and brain are functioning adequately, and who do not have serious active infections or uncontrolled long-term illnesses
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have another type of cancer, or who have serious long-term conditions such as severe diabetes, significant kidney disease, or advanced liver disease
- People who have been diagnosed before surgery with a condition called Barrett's esophagus (a change in the lining of the food pipe)
- People who have significant malnutrition before surgery, based on specific protein levels measured in the blood being too low
- People who have had previous surgery on the upper abdomen, have a structural abnormality of the digestive tract, or have a diagnosed psychiatric condition
- People who have been diagnosed before surgery with a condition that affects the normal muscle movement at the entrance of the stomach (such as achalasia)
- People who are unlikely to be able to cooperate with or complete the follow-up tests and examinations required after surgery
