Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have been diagnosed with cancer (confirmed by a lab test) that has spread or cannot be surgically removed, and your doctor believes a specific type of focused radiation treatment to the celiac plexus (a nerve cluster in the abdomen) is appropriate for you.
- You are older than 18 years of age.
- You are well enough to carry out some daily activities (not completely bedridden), based on a standard doctor's assessment scale.
- You have severe pain that spreads from your lower back to your upper abdomen in a belt-like pattern, and you rate your average pain at least 5 out of 10 on a standard pain questionnaire.
- Your scans (CT, PET/CT, or MRI) show that your cancer involves a specific nerve and blood vessel area in the abdomen called the celiac plexus — this includes all pancreatic cancers or other cancers that show signs of involvement in this area on imaging.
- You may have received chemotherapy or other cancer treatments before, as long as those treatments are paused at least one week before and one week after the radiation treatment.
- You are able to understand and willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the study.
- You have had a CT scan of your abdomen and pelvis taken within the last 28 days before joining the study.
Who may not be able to join:
- You are unable to lie flat and stay still for at least 45 minutes.
- You are completely bedridden and unable to carry out any self-care, based on a standard doctor's assessment scale.
- You have previously received radiation treatment to the upper abdomen in an area that overlaps with where the new treatment would be given.
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have certain conditions that may increase the risk of side effects from radiation, such as inflammatory bowel disease or scleroderma (confirm with trial site).
- If you are a woman who could become pregnant, you must have a negative pregnancy test within 14 days of joining the study (your doctor may be able to make exceptions to this requirement in certain situations — confirm with trial site).
