Who may be able to join

  • People aged 19 years or older.
  • People who have been diagnosed with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (a type of lung cancer that has spread), confirmed through a tissue or cell sample analysis.
  • People whose cancer has continued to grow or spread after receiving at least one prior chemotherapy treatment containing platinum, including those whose cancer returned or worsened within 6 months of completing chemotherapy, or those in specific earlier-stage situations where the cancer either responded or did not respond to platinum-based treatment (confirm with trial site for which group applies).
  • People with a general health and activity level rated at 0, 1, or 2 on a standard medical scale (meaning they are fully active, or have some limitations but are still up and about for more than half the day).
  • People who have at least one area of cancer that can be measured on scans, according to standard measurement guidelines.
  • People with a life expectancy of at least 12 weeks (3 months).
  • People whose blood, kidney, liver, and metabolic test results fall within acceptable ranges, tested within the 14 days before joining the trial (confirm with trial site for specific values).
  • People who are willing to provide tissue samples (unstained slides — at least 5, ideally 15) from either stored or newly collected biopsy material for research purposes.
  • Women who could become pregnant must have a negative pregnancy test (urine) at the start of the trial, and if that result is unclear or positive, a negative blood pregnancy test is also required.
  • Women who could become pregnant must agree to use effective contraception for the duration of the study.
  • Men who could father a child must agree to use effective contraception for the duration of the study.
  • People who have voluntarily given written consent to participate in this clinical trial.

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • People who have never received any prior treatment for small cell lung cancer.
  • People who have previously been treated with the drugs Lurbinectedin or Paclitaxel.
  • People diagnosed with limited-stage small cell lung cancer (cancer that has not spread widely).
  • People with brain metastases (cancer that has spread to the brain) that are causing symptoms or are considered medically significant — though people with brain metastases that are stable and not causing symptoms may still be considered, provided any treatment for the brain metastases was completed at least 1 week before the first dose of the study drug.
  • People who are currently taking certain medications that can affect heart rhythm, strongly suppress the immune system, or may cause lung inflammation — use of these medications during the treatment period is not allowed, and any exceptions would need to be discussed with the trial team first.
  • People with active HIV infection, active hepatitis B, or active hepatitis C — though people with hepatitis B or C who meet certain conditions (such as undetectable virus levels or having been successfully treated) may still be considered eligible (confirm with trial site).
  • People with active lung inflammation (interstitial lung disease) or a history of non-infectious lung inflammation that required steroid treatment, including cases related to immunotherapy or chemotherapy, or severe lung complications — though people who had a previous lung infection that has fully resolved may be considered (confirm with trial site).
  • Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • People who have had a significant heart condition in the past 12 months, such as heart failure, symptomatic heart artery disease, abnormal heart rhythms, or a heart attack.
  • People who still have side effects from previous cancer treatment that have not returned to their normal baseline or reduced to a mild level.
  • People who received any cancer treatment within the 14 days before the first dose of the study drug, or localised radiation therapy within the 7 days before the first dose.
  • People who are known to have a serious allergic reaction to any of the study drugs.
  • People who have any other condition that the trial doctor considers would make participation in the study unsuitable.
