- Children aged between 5 and 8 years old
- Children who have one or two back baby teeth (primary molars) that have no pain or symptoms, and where the tooth is still alive (vital), after completing the required treatment
- Children whose back teeth have decay on one or more surfaces (the chewing surface or the surfaces between teeth) that requires a full metal cap (crown) to cover the whole tooth
- Children whose teeth show signs of decay on dental X-rays at an early to moderate level (ICDAS score 0–3), with no sign that the decay has reached the inner part of the tooth (the pulp) or the roots
- Children whose teeth have enough healthy structure remaining to hold a preformed metal crown in place
- Children who are cooperative during dental examinations and procedures, based on a standard behaviour rating scale used by dentists (Frankl rating 3–4)
Who may not be able to join:
- Children whose teeth show signs of nerve or pulp problems, such as a dental abscess (sinus tract), pain that happens on its own, pain when the tooth is tapped, or unusual looseness of the tooth
- Children whose dental X-rays show that decay has reached the pulp, that there is a dark shadow at the tooth's root fork (furcation), or that the roots have broken down by more than one-third of their length
- Children who have certain medical or general health conditions that make routine dental treatment unsuitable (confirm with trial site)
- Children whose target teeth have already had previous dental treatment or fillings placed (confirm with trial site for specific requirements)
