Who may be able to join

  • A diagnosis of primary oral mucosal melanoma that has been confirmed through tissue testing, following World Health Organization criteria.
  • The melanoma started in the mouth, specifically in areas such as the palate, gums, under the tongue, cheek lining, hard palate, or floor of the mouth.
  • Currently receiving or planning to receive standard treatment such as surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or targeted therapy.
  • Aged 18 years or older, of any sex.
  • For past cases: complete medical records including pathology reports, imaging, and clinical history must be available; for future participants: willingness to be followed up over a longer period of time.
  • For future participants: a signed consent form is required; for past cases: the data must meet the requirements of an ethical waiver (confirm with trial site).

Who may not be able to join

Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.

  • Melanoma that started in the skin, eye, esophagus, or any site other than the oral (mouth) mucosa.
  • Melanoma in the mouth that has spread from a primary site elsewhere in the body, rather than starting in the mouth.
  • Missing important medical records such as surgical notes, pathology reports, or imaging results.
  • A previous or current additional cancer diagnosis that may affect how prognosis is assessed.
  • Severe mental health or cognitive conditions, or significant difficulty following study requirements.
  • Serious health conditions such as heart failure or liver or kidney failure that could affect treatment or make survival analysis unreliable.
  • Declining to participate or withdrawing previously given consent.
