Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People whose ulcerative colitis affects only the rectum (the very last part of the bowel), based on their most recent scope examination.
- People who drink alcohol above certain weekly limits — more than 140 grams per week for women, or more than 210 grams per week for men (confirm with trial site for what this means in standard drinks).
- People whose FibroScan produces results that are not considered reliable.
- People who have a known long-term liver condition from another cause, including autoimmune, viral, alcohol-related, metabolic, or cancerous liver disease.
- People who have advanced liver disease where the liver is no longer able to function properly (decompensated cirrhosis).
- People who test positive for hepatitis B or hepatitis C.
- People who have coeliac disease (an immune reaction to gluten).
- People who have type 1 diabetes.
- People who have a history of cancer.
- People whose liver enzyme levels (ALT or AST) are more than five times higher than the normal range.
- People whose liver is affected by congestion due to heart failure.
- People who have a blockage in the bile ducts causing abnormal liver enzyme results.
- People who have cancer that has spread to the liver.
- People who have a blood clot in the portal vein (the main vein supplying the liver).
- People who have Budd-Chiari syndrome, a condition affecting blood flow out of the liver.
- People who are pregnant.
- People who are unable or unwilling to provide written consent to participate.
