Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between the ages of 40 and 75 years old
- People who have been diagnosed with idiopathic Parkinsonism (a form of Parkinson's disease with no known cause) at a moderate to moderately severe stage, as measured by a standard rating scale called Hoehn and Yahr stages 2–4
- People who are medically stable and have received clearance from their doctor to participate
- People who are able to walk at least 10 feet, with or without assistance
- People who are able to understand and follow instructions
- People who are willing to avoid donating blood for the entire duration of the study
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have additional neurological (brain or nervous system) conditions beyond their Parkinsonism diagnosis
- People with serious illness or active infection, including heart, lung, or breathing-related conditions, or high blood pressure that is not well controlled
- People who have a breathing condition that causes a high-pitched sound when inhaling (known as inspiratory stridor)
- People who are pregnant — note that women of childbearing age are not automatically excluded, but if there is a chance of pregnancy, a pregnancy test will be required, and participation would only continue if the result is negative (confirm with trial site)
- People who have smoked cigarettes or used vaping products within the past 5 years
- People with a history of cancer in the head, neck, or lungs — though a history of a common, low-risk skin cancer called basal cell carcinoma is not a reason for exclusion
- People who are currently taking part in another research study that could affect the results of this trial
- People who have deep brain stimulation (DBS) electrodes implanted, or who have a history of deep brain stimulation treatment
- People who faint or feel lightheaded at the sight of blood
