Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults between 18 and 50 years old
  • People who score above 21 on a standard psychological distress questionnaire called the K10 (a measure of emotional and mental wellbeing)
  • People who have not regularly practised mindfulness or progressive muscle relaxation (a body-based relaxation technique) in the past 6 months — meaning less than once per week
  • People with normal vision, or vision that is fully corrected with glasses or contact lenses
  • People who are willing to take part and have signed a consent form agreeing to do so

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have been diagnosed by a psychiatrist with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or another serious mental health condition
  • People who have had thoughts of suicide with a plan, have self-harmed, or have needed emergency mental health support in the past month
  • People who are currently receiving ongoing, structured psychological therapy or taking part in another mental health intervention program
  • People who started taking psychiatric medication within the past 3 months, or whose medication dose has not yet been stable
  • People with a history of epilepsy, serious brain injury, or other nervous system conditions that could affect brain activity measurements (such as EEG recordings)
  • People with significant vision or hearing difficulties, or any other condition that would prevent them from completing the study activities
