Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 50 to 69 years old
- People who have taken part in an early detection program for colorectal (bowel) cancer
- People who had a positive result on a stool blood test (a test that checks for hidden blood in the stool, at a level of 20 μg Hb/g feces or above)
- People who have a screening colonoscopy (a camera examination of the bowel) booked at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona
- People who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- People with severe kidney disease (stage 4 or 5) and/or severe heart failure (Class III or IV on the NYHA scale)
- People who have had a colonoscopy within the past year
- People who have very limited physical function (a Barthel Index score below 20) and who also meet the clinical criteria for functional constipation (Rome IV Criteria) (confirm with trial site)
- People with a significant intellectual disability or a severe mental health condition, including schizophrenia, severe recurring depression, severe obsessive-compulsive disorder, severe personality disorders, or bipolar disorder
- People who do not understand spoken or written Catalan or Spanish
- People who have had part or all of their colon (large bowel) surgically removed
- People with a personal history of bowel cancer or bowel conditions requiring ongoing specialist follow-up, such as ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, or bowel polyps (colorectal adenomas)
- People with a terminal illness or a serious illness or disability that would make further bowel examination unsafe or unsuitable
- People with digestive conditions that make the study products unsuitable, such as problems with stomach emptying, a hole or blockage in the digestive tract, bowel obstruction, or toxic megacolon
- People with high levels of magnesium in the blood (hypermagnesemia)
- People with a condition involving breakdown of muscle tissue (rhabdomyolysis)
- People with phenylketonuria (an inherited condition affecting how the body processes certain proteins)
- People with a deficiency of an enzyme called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase
- People with a known allergy or sensitivity to any active ingredients or components of the study products
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
