- People who have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (either relapsing or progressive type) according to a specific set of diagnostic guidelines called the 2017 McDonald Criteria.

- People who have used functional electrical stimulation (a type of muscle-stimulating device) in the last 6 months.
- People who have bone, joint, or heart-related health conditions that, in the opinion of the study physical therapists, would place them at risk.
- People who have had an MS relapse in the last 30 days that has affected their ability to walk.
- People who have significant muscle stiffness, specifically a score above 2 out of 4 on a standard stiffness scale (where a score of 3 means passive movement of a limb is difficult).
