Who may be able to join
- People aged between 18 and 80 years old.
- People who have been diagnosed with relapsing remitting, primary progressive, or secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (MS).
- People who have weakness in the hip flexor muscles on one or both sides of the body, measured at a certain level of severity using a standard muscle strength test (a score of 3 or less out of 5).
- People who are able to walk at least 30 meters (about 100 feet) without needing to rest and without physical help from another person.
- People whose body measurements fall within the following ranges: waist circumference between 26 and 48 inches, height between 5 feet and 6 feet 2 inches, and weight between 100 and 230 pounds.
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
- People who have regularly used a hip flexion brace or support device within the past 6 months.
- People who have thinking or communication difficulties that could affect their ability to take part safely.
- People who have significant pain or physical changes in the shape or structure of the legs or hips that could affect their ability to walk.
- People who have severe muscle stiffness in the hips or legs that could affect walking, as measured by a standard clinical scale (a score of 3 or 4 on the Modified Ashworth Scale).
- People who have any other neurological condition (a condition affecting the brain, spinal cord, or nerves) that may affect the way they walk.
