Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have had rheumatoid arthritis for more than 2 years and whose rheumatologist has referred them to this study.
  • People with a known history of rheumatoid arthritis who are able to participate as a healthy volunteer.

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have electrically, magnetically, or mechanically activated implants in their body, such as a heart pacemaker, magnetic surgical clips, artificial body parts, or an implanted nerve stimulator.
  • People who are pregnant.
  • People who experience fear or discomfort in enclosed spaces (claustrophobia).
  • People whose kidneys are not working properly — for example, those with abnormal kidney function test results or those receiving kidney dialysis.
  • People with dangerously low or unstable blood pressure.
  • People with a condition called Rhabdomyolysis, which involves serious muscle breakdown (confirm with trial site).
  • People who have had an MRI or MRA scan using a contrast dye called gadolinium within the last 3 months. (Gadolinium is a substance injected into a vein during certain scans to help produce clearer images.)
