Who may be able to join
For patients with Alzheimer's disease:
- Women who are not able to become pregnant (not of reproductive age)
- Men with a female partner who could become pregnant, who agree to use an approved form of birth control during the study
- People who have completed at least 10 years of education or have a 10-year work history
- People who have not smoked or used any nicotine products for at least 6 months
- People who have been diagnosed with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease
- People who have a reliable caregiver who agrees to attend all clinic visits, share information with the study team, and return for all follow-up appointments
For healthy elderly volunteers:
- People who are in good general health
- People who have a normal heart tracing (ECG) result
Who may not be able to join
Each point below is a reason the trial team may not be able to accept someone. It is not a list of requirements to meet.
For patients with Alzheimer's disease:
- People who have had any other brain or nervous system condition besides Alzheimer's disease
- People who currently live in a nursing home
- People who have had a stroke
- People who have had a psychotic disorder, are currently experiencing major depression, or have a history of schizophrenia
- People who have had a sleep disorder
- People who have had a heart or blood vessel condition
- People who have had cancer
- People who are currently or have previously taken part in a study involving an experimental treatment, device, or vaccine for Alzheimer's disease
- People who drink more than 6 caffeinated drinks (such as coffee, tea, or cola) per day
- People who drink more than 3 alcoholic drinks per day
- People who have had major surgery, or who have donated or lost blood in the past 8 weeks
For healthy elderly volunteers:
- People who have significant mental health difficulties, emotional problems, or a history of a psychiatric condition in the past 5–10 years, or who are not able to make their own decisions legally or mentally
