Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have tested positive for HIV
- People who are able to give their informed consent to participate
- People who are willing to have blood samples taken and/or undergo a procedure that collects white blood cells from the blood (leukapheresis)
- People who fall into one of these three groups: (1) currently on stable HIV treatment (HAART) with a very low, undetectable amount of virus in the blood (fewer than 50 copies/mL), (2) not on any HIV treatment but still having an undetectable amount of virus in the blood (sometimes called "elite controllers"), or (3) not on any HIV treatment and having a detectable amount of virus in the blood (more than 1,000 copies/mL)
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are known to have anaemia (low red blood cell levels), or who have a medical reason that prevents them from donating blood
- People who have a blood clotting disorder, including a history of unusual bleeding or blood clots
- People whose platelet count (cells that help blood clot) is below 50,000/mm³ (confirm with trial site)
- People whose blood clotting test results (PTT or INR) fall outside acceptable ranges (confirm with trial site)
- People with very low albumin levels in the blood, which can indicate poor nutrition or liver problems (confirm with trial site)
- People with significantly elevated liver enzyme levels (ALT or AST), which may indicate liver damage (confirm with trial site)
- People who have been diagnosed with cirrhosis (serious liver scarring), either through a biopsy or a clinical diagnosis
- People who weigh less than 120 pounds (approximately 54 kg)
- People with high blood pressure above 160/100
- People with low blood pressure below 100/70
- People who are pregnant
